Eligibility Checklist
Statutory Requirements01. PR Status
You must have valid Permanent Resident (PR) status in Canada, regardless of age. Your PR status must not be under review for any reason.
02. Physical Presence
You must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) during the five years right before the date you sign your application.
03. Tax Filing
You must have filed personal income taxes in Canada for at least 3 years within the five-year period immediately before you apply.
04. Languages
Candidates aged 18 to 54 must show that they can speak and listen in English or French at a CLB Level 4 or higher.
05. Citizenship Test
If you are 18 to 54 years old, you'll need to pass a test about Canada’s history, values, institutions, and symbols.
06. Prohibition
You cannot have a criminal record that prevents you from being granted citizenship, including certain offenses inside or outside Canada.
